I had a very lucky week last week, as I was the big winner of the Grand in the Hand draw hosted by the Quyon Community Association. The QCA have been holding these draws weekly to raise money for their upcoming events, as well as for the improvements to the community that they make, like the new banners in town. Every dollar raised goes back into the community, and it is great to have an organization like this working hard for our town.

If you read THE EQUITY last week, you likely saw the article on how the Quyon Community Centre is going through a difficult time after losing a large portion of its funding. The volunteers who are keeping the doors open at this time are hoping to recoup some of these losses by fundraising in the community, and currently they are accepting donations of cans and bottles. If you have any to donate, they can be dropped off during their business hours. The Family Centre is a vital part of our community, and they need our help right now, so if you are able to donate in any way, please reach out to them.

Mark your calendars for Aug. 9, as the Quyon Pastoral Charge will be hosting a “Buildings, Blooms, and Blocks Tour” in honour of Quyon’s 150th Anniversary. The tour will include two historical sites, two gardens, and a quilt show. Tickets and more information are coming soon.

Birthday wishes are going out to Everlea McCann on June 26, and to Avery Richardson and Eddie McCann on the 27th. Happy birthday to Emily McCann on the 28th, and to Ray Johnston on July 1st. Best wishes to all celebrating this week.
The Quyon Legion gave a shout-out last week to Lindsay Hamilton and Homegrown Garden Centre, for donating and planting the flowers at the Cenotaph. It is great to see our community supporting one another and helping out in these special ways.

The Inauguration of the Egan Mill is being held this Friday, June 27, and they are inviting all to join them for the grand opening. There will be an historical re-enactment of John Egan’s duel, as well as guided tours, tastings, vendor booths, ice cream, and much more. We are thrilled to have the Mill opening again in our Community, and wish the owners all the best with this fantastic endeavour.

The Pontiac Country Festival is on this weekend, kicking off with a Grand Opening Bingo on Thursday evening at the Quyon Community Centre. Then the weekend will be filled with great entertainment, as there will be musical acts on stage, horse shows to watch, camping, and so much more. The municipal fairgrounds is definitely the place to be this weekend.
On Monday, June 30, the Quyon Community Association will be hosting their annual Canada Day celebrations. Put on your red and white and come out to enjoy the parade, which will be departing Onslow School and heading the Community Centre at 7 p.m.. There will be activities for children at the park following the parade, and then at dusk there will be a drone show and fireworks that are not to be missed. Happy Canada Day to all!
