Our local schools were closed on Monday due to a heat wave that is set to last til mid-week. Temperatures with the humidity are reaching highs of 46 degrees Celsius. People will need to stay indoors, limit exertion outdoors and drink lots of water. Stay safe.
The Municipality of Shawville will be picking up garbage next Monday, June 30, instead of Tuesday, due to it being a holiday.
The Soap Box Derby will be held on Monday, June 30. Registration is at 5 p.m. and the races will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Victoria Avenue. There will be a BBQ on-site, beginning at 4 p.m., courtesy of Shawville-District Minor Hockey.
There is lots going on in town on Canada Day. The Shawville Lions Club will be hosting a breakfast starting at 8:30 a.m. at the Agricultural Hall. The Canada Day Flea Market will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the Shawville Arena and the parade will begin at 1 p.m. at Rectory Road. Registration is at 11:30 a.m. Fireworks will begin at dusk.
