Shawville residents hungry for casual fare are in luck this summer. The town’s Main Street chip stand has reopened after a year-long hiatus, this time with a new cook.
Now called Poutine du Paradis (Paradise Poutine), the stand is the initiative of Lucien Duplessis, an Otter Lake resident who spent the past two years working at his mom’s chip stand, Chez Poune, in Otter Lake.
“I already have a good idea of what to do, what to expect, and I figured it would be a good way to make a little bit of money while I’m figuring out my next steps in life,” he said.
Duplessis said he will have standard chip stand fare, focusing on having fresh burgers, fries, and of course the namesake dish, poutine. “I try to get higher-quality items for what I can,” he said.
In addition to having tables out front where customers can enjoy their food, Duplessis also had some brand-new picnic tables installed under the shelter out back. “It’s for when it rains, if people are eating out then there’s shelter from the rain.”
Poutine du Paradis, located at 374 rue Main, is open from Wednesday to Monday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.. Only cash is accepted.
