Quyon – Jillian Young

Congratulations to Colton Keon and Breanna Hodgins, as they welcomed their first child on Mar. 3. They are proud parents to a baby boy named Nashton. Wishing them all the best as they settle in with their sweet little bundle.

Quyon was alive with St. Paddy’s Day spirit this weekend. On Saturday, the Quyon Legion hosted their annual Kitchen Party to kick off the celebrations, and many gathered dressed in their best green to enjoy the music of Cal Cummings, Natasha Curley, Rolly Bernier, and more. It was a fun way to get the St. Paddy’s Day party started.

On Sunday, Gavan’s Hotel was the place to be, as it hosted the most legendary party of them all. The Shamrock Lounge was bursting at the seams, as folks came from far and wide to watch Gail Gavan host the day’s program, which was filled with terrific Irish music, traditional step-dancing, and so much fun all day long. Music provided by the Daley family, Virigina Schwartz and friends, Louis Schryer, and of course, Gail Gavan herself, kept the toes tapping and the dance floor hopping. What a fantastic celebration it was.

The St. Pat’s celebrations will continue this coming weekend, as the Quyon Pastoral Charge will be hosting the annual Irish Tea on Saturday in the Quyon United Church basement. Come join us for sandwiches, sweets, and tea, all served on fine china. Let’s keep the St. Paddys’ Day fun going.

Birthday wishes are going out to Donna Provost, and to Maddox and Zayden Alexander, all celebrating on Mar. 13. We also have birthday wishes going out to Ellard Kennedy on the 15th, to Ryan Woermke on the 17th, and to Michael McCann and Tayler Campbell on the 19th. Happy days to everyone celebrating this week.

It was another big weekend for Kenzie Smith, as she took gold in her figure skating competition at Invitation Vaudreuil 2024. Kenzie’s family is so proud of all the hard work she put in this season. Congratulations to her and the other skaters from the Shawville Figure Skating Club who represented in Vaudreuil this weekend.

Shawville – Lyse Lacourse

Our deepest condolences to the Hodgins and Maheral families on the loss of Helen on Mar. 8, at the age of 77. She was the wife of Eric Sr. and was the mother of Andy (Krystal) and Tammy (Thomas). She was the sister of Cathy (Jack), John (Sharon) and Joan.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Harris family on the loss of Keith on Mar. 8, at the age of 77. He was the husband of Lorraine and was the father of the late Todd and Jeff (Anick). He was the brother of Brian (Barb), Gary (Bonney) and the late Gail.

Sunday, Mar. 17 is the 5th Sunday of Lent. It is called the Passiontide and is the name for the last two weeks of Lent.

St. Patrick’s Day is on Sunday, don’t forget to wear something green.

Waltham – Helen Perry

Our neighbor Ray Bechamp has begun tapping trees for maple syrup. It is hard to say if the sap will run with all these above seasonal temperatures that we are experiencing lately.

Our heartfelt sympathy, thoughts and prayers are with Connie (Gutoskie) and Jean-Guy LaSalle of Bryson in the recent passing of their dearly loved son David. He was the beloved husband of Christine Cote.

Warm happy birthday wishes are extended to Charlie Andrews, who is celebrating a birthday on Mar. 16. We hope that it is a good one Charlie.

Birthday wishes and love are extended to our godson Patrick Pilon, of Ottawa, who is celebrating his birthday on Mar. 15. Enjoy your special day Patrick.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day everyone.
