The Municipality of Campbell’s Bay has announced the completion of a new ice rink.
Located at 4 Patterson Street, at the Maison des Jeunes, the municipality is touting the new rink as a much needed improvement over the town’s decades old, deteriorating rink.
“The previous rink was dated and was made of wood. The wood boards were rotten, and the municipality couldn’t continue with temporary patching,” said the municipalities Director General Sarah Bertrand.
The town’s new rink is a Permarink model, made up of prefabricated fiberglass boards layered in with a gel coating.
According to the municipality, funding for the rink project came from the revitalization agreement signed between the MRC Pontiac and the provincial ministry of municipal affairs and housing. The municipality says it will schedule times for public skating and pick-up hockey on the new rink and hopes to encourage the introduction of a new hockey league during the upcoming winter.
“Like baseball in the summer, hockey is the center of attention for winter sports that are enjoyed by all Campbell’s Bay residents,” Bertrand said. “It is the heart of winter activities for our youth. Campbell’s Bay residents can feel very proud of their new rink.”
