Quyon – Jill Young

Congratulations to Katie Dolan and Ben Younge, who were married in an outdoor ceremony at their home on Saturday. The newlyweds were surrounded by family and friends as they celebrated in the evening with a beautiful reception. Wishing the Younges all the best.

Best wishes are going out Myriam Dagenais and Miguel Rivest, married at her family home in Quyon on Saturday. The wedding was followed by a reception at Starborn Farms. Congratulations to the newlyweds.

On Saturday, our little town got a big facelift as the Quyon Community Association put up the new Canada Day banners around the village. They look absolutely amazing, all thanks to the fundraising the committee has been doing over the past year. It was lovely to see the flower planters back out on the streets last week, planted by Lindsay Hamilton and her team. Makes me proud to see Quyon looking so good.

Our village had sad news last week, as it was announced that Clarendon Street Café closed on Saturday. It was such a great spot, so nicely decorated and with terrific food and service. Wishing Mitch Trudeau and his staff all the best in their future endeavours. We sure will miss the Café.

Belated birthday wishes are extended to Charlene Graham, as she celebrated her 80th birthday on June 15. A group of friends and family joined her at Cabotto’s Restaurant in Stittsville last Friday, June 16, to mark this special milestone birthday. Cheers to you, Charlene.

I’d like to send out big birthday wishes to my niece, Neve Young, turning 11 today. Also to our cousin Ryla Platt, who is celebrating the same day. We have birthday wishes going out to Rory Armitage and Randy Labadie, both today. To Everlea McCann on June 26 and to Avery Richardson and Eddie McCann, both on June 27. Best wishes to everyone celebrating this week.

The school year is wrapping up for our local students this week, with many celebrations and graduation parties happening. Congratulations to all of the graduates, as they look forward to their futures with excitement. Wishing all of the students and staff of our schools a terrific summer.

Waltham – Helen Perry

We were saddened to hear of the passing of Clement Mainville, of Pembroke. He was the dearly loved brother of Lorraine Mainville-Demers. Our heartfelt sympathy, thoughts and prayers are with Lorraine, family and friends at this difficult time.

On Saturday morning, a lovely bridal shower was held in honor of Hailey Romain. It took place at the Waltham Town Hall. Family and friends gathered to shower Hailey with love and best wishes. She received some beautiful gifts for which she expressed her appreciation. A tasty brunch was served. In the evening, a well-attended stag was held in honor of Hailey and her future husband Todd Peters. A lovely lunch was served. It also took place at the Waltham Town Hall.

The forest fires in Quebec have slowly been decreasing in numbers. Most are under control or being held. As a result, the air quality has noticeably improved in the last few days. Obviously, the great efforts of the forestry firefighters has been effective in slowing and controlling these fires.

I cannot believe another school year has come and gone. I sure hope the students, teachers, custodians and bus drivers enjoy a wonderful summer and take in a lot of R and R.

They are calling for very warm temperatures towards the middle of this week. Stay cool and hydrated.

Happy St. Jean Baptiste everyone.

He was the partner of Jeannine Francoeur. He was the father of Linda (Thomas), Brian (late Lynn), Vivianne (Fern), Bobby ( Michelle) and John (Diane).

Congratulations to St-Paul’s Anglican Church on their Chicken Barbeque this past week. It was delicious as usual.

A good thing to note is that there will be no bridge closures this week.
