Attendees to the annual Valentine’s Tea at Shawville United Church on Saturday got a chance to strut their stuff before . . .

sitting down for tea.

The event had a red carpet theme, giving those in attendance a chance to show of their best afternoon tea outfits.

While the walk down the red carpet was much less hectic than the one at the Oscars, the organizers said the tea-totallers had fun with it, with one attendee taking home the best red carpet-themed outfit.

The event was organized by Unit 2 of the United Church Women (UCW) and serves as a fundraiser for the church and the UCW.

The group hosts the Valentine’s Tea event each year and participates in several functions throughout the year, including the church’s annual supper in November.

It took the work of around a dozen volunteers to get the event off the ground – everything from preparing the food to decorating the church hall to working the kitchen during the event.

The hard work of those involved – especially the organizing committee – was on full display as around 100 attendees were on hand.

They were treated to a variety of home-made desserts and a smorgasbord of sandwiches.

The event is the main fundraiser for Unit 2 of the UCW and has been a mainstay at the church for more than two decades.
