Pontiac Lions Midget A

The Pontiac Lions were in the third annual Pontiac Provincial Tournament Bantam/Midget division in Shawville this weekend.

The first game . . .

was Friday night against Lachine. The Lions came out on top with a 4-0 win. Harrison Lukas-Hitz opened the scoring in the first period, assisted by Bryan Tubman and Thomas Beck. Bryan Tubman scored one in the second period to make it 2-0, assisted by Carson Rusenstrom.

Early in the third Carson Rusenstrom scored assisted by Bryan Tubman and Ethan Queale making it 3-0. Two minutes later Nick Curley scored assisted by Connor Gilpin. Making it 4-0. With Kaelen Ireland with the shutout.

The second game was Saturday morning against Renfrew. It was a tight game with no score going into the third. But halfway through the third Renfrew scored giving them a 1-0 lead.

The Lions fought hard until the end but unfortunately were not able to score, giving Renfrew the 1-0 win.

The third and final game of the round robin was Saturday night against Aylmer. The Lions needed a win to advance to the finals. The game was back and forth until the second when the Lions scored. The goal was scored by Tyler Stanton, assisted by Nick Curley and Harrison Lukacs-Hitz.

Just before the end of the second, Bryan Tubman scored for the Lions assisted by Hunter Lukacs-Hitz and Connor Gilpin. Then, late in the third Bryan Tubman scored to seal the win, assisted by Hunter Lukacs-Hitz, ending the game with a 3-0 win and a rematch against Renfrew in the finals. And another shutout for Kaelen Ireland.

So, here we go Sunday evening with a jam-packed arena with Pontiac Lions fans.

It was a fast paced game going end to end. Kaelen Ireland coming up with some big saves to keep the game at zeroes. But at the 6:36 mark of the first period it was the Lions striking first. Goal scored by Carson Rusenstrom assisted by Bryan Tubman and Willis Egan. Two minutes later the Lions strike again. Goal scored by Dannik Laroche, assisted by Hunter Lukacs-Hitz. With Renfrew coming on strong they scored late in the first and again in the second to tie the game 2-2. With some strong play by Ryan Lang and Colton Gauthier, the Lions started the third tied at 2.

The Lions started off strong in the third, keeping the pressure on Renfrew. With some good defensive plays by Shane Kelly the Lions were gaining momentum and at the 6:37 mark of the third period the Lions took the lead. Goal scored by Nick Curley assisted by Connor Gilpin. Now with the Lions up and Renfrew with their goalie pulled, they put the pressure on. But with less than 15 seconds left in the game Nick Curley scored in the empty net. This gave the Lions a 4-2 win.

I would like to congratulate all the players and coaches (Ray Curley, Ed Rusenstrom, Jeff Ireland and Steve Gilpin ) on a well played tournament.
