The Pontiac population has been called upon to participate in a public consultation regarding . . .
forestry activities in the region for the next three years (2018-2023), which will be conducted until Feb. 7.
As part of the Quebec Ministry of Forests, Wildlife and Parks’ (MFFP) integrated operational forestry management plan (PAFIO),the consultation focuses on new sectors for potential intervention and the improvement or construction of public roadways and of other types of infrastructures in the Outaouais.
According to the MFFP’s Communications Advisor for the Regional Direction of the Southwest Sector of the province, Caroline Bujold, the consultation mainly concerns the territories of Alleyn-et-Cawood, Chichester, Lac Nigault (TNO), Mansfield et Pontefract, Rapides des Joachims, Sheenboro and Waltham.
“It’s important that people submit to us their preoccupations,” she said.
With the consultation’s purpose fixed on acquiring data regarding proposed forestry management projects, it does not allow the MFFP to review the allocation of public land or the rights granted to it, Bujold said.
According to the MFFP’s website, commercial and non-commercial forestry intervention projects may begin as early as April 2020.
Concerned citizens can express their opinions online by georeferencing the MFFP’s interactive map of the region, which is accessible on its website: operationsregionales.mffp.gouv.qc.caConsultationPublique_20200113/
Using the interactive map, individuals are invited to pin-point precisely which location on the map they’re concerned about and also comment their concerns.
Once the consultation is complete, MFFP representatives will assess the individual concerns from residents and organizations in every territory of concern.
Then, the MFFP will work to identify ways to implement forestry management projects in the region, while staying in line with the objective of harmonizing with the population’s preoccupations.
People can also visit the MFFP’s management unit in in person, located at 163 chemin de la Chute in Mansfield et Pontefract.
