On Saturday, the Pontiac Atom Lions took on the Aylmer Pionniers. The last time these two . . .

teams met back in December, the Pionniers prevailed 1 – 0 and knocked the Lions out of the semi-finals of the Sensplex Tournament. This time Coach Danny Lalonde had his troops ready to make some Pionniers pancakes with Lion syrup.

After some early pressure from the Lions and some big stops from the opposing goalie, the Pionniers fought back to score the first goal of the game to take a 1 – 0 lead. However, four minutes later the Lions clawed back with Bentley Lalonde hammering home a rebound to even the game at 1-1. Action was fierce and the Lions began to throw everything they had at the Aylmer tender for the remainder of the first period and into the second.

With a beautiful shot to the top corner, Jeff Demers, assisted by Easton Armstrong put the Lions ahead 2-1. Not to be outdone, the Pionniers mustered two breakaways in the latter part of the second period only to be stonewalled by Pontiac net minder Gavin Roy.

Early on in the third period, Roy, looking like hall-of-famer Patrick, stymied another Pionnier breakaway with another big stop.

With the score at 2-1 for the Lions, Mavrik “Boomer” Maxsom saved the Lions bacon with a great defensive play in front of his goalie. Minutes later, a determined effort from Pontiac Captain Walker Tremblay allowed him to bang home a rebound to finish off the Pionniers 3-1. Assists on Tremblay’s goal went to Ashton Deschenes and Lalonde.

This marks the seventh consecutive victory for the young Lions earning them a tie for second place in Atom C west division.
