Hundreds gather at Gavan’s to bid farewell to a community legend

On Saturday night, Gavan’s Hotel in Quyon was packed as hundreds of people from both sides of the Ottawa River gathered for a surprise party in honour of bar owner Nick Matechuk, who announced his retirement earlier this year. While he’ll stick around the hotel until the holidays are wrapped up, he’s looking forward to moving back to his hometown of Sault Ste. Marie to be closer to his family.
