The Pontiac Senior Comets moved into a tie for second place in the Outaouais Senior . . .

A Hockey League (OSAHL) after defeating the Maniwaki Forestiers 8-3 on Saturday night at the Fort Coulonge Arena.

The game got off to a sloppy start with both teams chopping the puck through the neutral zone and into the opposition’s end.

But just over halfway through the opening period, the Comets’ Justin Charbonneau fired a puck toward the top corner of the far side of the Forestier’s net when it looked to bulge twine. However, the puck carried around the boards and the referees made the goal signal.

After the crowd erupted in light of the non-call, the referees huddled together to discuss what they saw during the next whistle but ruled there was no goal.

During the following stoppage, the referees even checked the twine to ensure there was no hole.

In the end, the Comets decided it didn’t matter if the puck went in because they exploded with three goals in under 1:30. Olivier Donovan opened the scoring, followed by Justin Charbonneau and Matthew Warren.

Before the period was out, Mitchell Gibson finished off a beautiful two-on-one with Charbonneau to pace the Comets to a 4-0 lead after the first.

The Forestiers took it to the home team in the second, with Andrew Jeannotte scoring just over five minutes into the frame.

The Comets quickly countered with Charbonneau’s second of the game.

But the first place Forestiers weren’t going to lay down and take the loss. They made it a close game with two more goals before the end of the second to make it a 5-3 game going into the third.

Whatever was said in the Comets dressing room seemed to work as the team came storming out eager, seal the victory.

Charbonneau continued his stellar game by opening the scoring less than two minutes into the third period.

Just over a minute later, Stephen Blunden buried another goal to make it 7-3 for the Comets. Guillaume Grégoire capped off the scoring allowing the Comets to cruise to a 8-3 victory.

The referees examine the net after a puck appeared to go through the mesh despite being ruled a no-goal. In the end, the non-call wouldn’t matter as the Comets surged to an 8-3 victory at the Fort Coulonge Arena on Saturday night.
