SHAWVILLE May 10, 2019
On May 10 at around 1:30 p.m., a local elderly woman crashed her car into the Giant Tiger in Shawville causing severe damage to a portion of the building.
According to store owner Ken Pack, she was attempting to park in front of the store when she accidentally stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brake.
The accident caused severe damage to a section of the building, crushing one of the front windows, drywall a park bench that sat on the sidewalk at the front of the store.
“It moved the structural post,” Pack said. “Drywall’s all broke inside. We had a park bench outside. The park bench is broken. It did a little bit of damage, yeah.”
Giant Tiger is currently waiting on an estimate that is expected to happen within the next few days and that will indicate their next move in terms of the building’s renovation.
As of now, the broken wall inside the store has been taped up and blocked off with sheets of plywood on the exterior.
No injuries were reported.
