I had such a great week off on summer vacation last week. My holidays kicked off by celebrating my birthday at the Quyon Tractor and Truck Pull on Saturday, July 28. I couldn’t have asked for a better birthday party! We spent the day watching the pulls, and despite a rain delay, it was a fantastic event. Congratulations to all of the winners on the day, and big kudos to the organizers and volunteers who put so much of their time and energy into making this a huge and successful event for our little town. Once the pull was over, we headed over to the Quyon Legion for the after party, where a great crowd gathered. The band Timewarp was playing, and kept us up on the dance floor all night long. It was such a fun day.
Our MNA André Fortin was in attendance at the Tractor Pull to make a big announcement. In addition to government investments for lighting at the ball parks in Luskville and Campbell’s Bay, he announced that funding has been allocated for a new park and splash pad in Quyon. This is wonderful news for our community, much-needed and greatly appreciated by the many families who live here. Great news!
On Sunday the 29, we packed up and headed to one of my favourite places on earth, the Draper Camp on the Ottawa River. We venture there every summer for a few days of rest, relaxation, and fun on the water. I so enjoyed my time playing in the river with the kids, kayaking, and just enjoying camp life. A big thanks to the Draper family for all they do to make our summer holiday such a great time.
Our thoughts and prayers have been with the Trudeau family, as Pat Trudeau passed away on July 23. Deepest condolences to all of Pat’s family and friends, she will be missed.
Congratulations to Curtis and Andrea (Hobbs) Young on the birth of their baby girl, Kendall. She arrived safely on Aug. 3, and she is also welcomed by her big sister Quinn and many excited extended family members. Best wishes to all.
Warm wishes are going out to Ray Johnston and Joanne Provost, as they were married on Saturday, Aug. 4 at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Shawville. The ceremony was followed by a reception at Gavan’s Hotel in Quyon, where family and friends gathered to celebrate with the happy couple. Congratulations to Ray and Joanne!
Belated birthday wishes are extended to Chum Coté, as he celebrated on Aug. 2, and to Maryon Courrier, who celebrated her 85th birthday on Aug. 3. We also have wishes going out to Brodee Campbell on Aug. 4, and to Kaylee and Jessica Hamilton on the 6. Happy birthday to Liam Dowe on the 9, to Ariella Albert and Linda Bernier both on the 11, and to Meghan Morris on the 12. Best wishes to everyone celebrating this week.
On Sunday Aug. 5, we celebrated the baptism of Lindsay Hamilton and Ryan Woermke’s baby girl, Elaine Emily Dawn, at Wesley United Church in Beechgrove. I had the honour and joy of standing with my friends, as I accepted the role as Lainey’s Godmother. Lainey was also fortunate to have her great-great-aunt and namesake, Elaine Hamilton Mohr Bronson, also present as her honorary Godmother. Her big brother Sam helped pour the water for her baptism, and she was received into the church by Rev. Susan Butler-Jones and student minister Eric Hebert-Daly. It was a wonderful day of celebration!
