The Little Red Wagon Winery was full of fashionistas on May 17 as Boutique Gwendoline and Boutique Shawville Shooz teamed up to host a fashion show.
Katharine Summerfield, owner of Boutique Gwendoline, has plenty of experience putting on fashion shows, but hasn’t hosted one in a number of years.
With the recent grand opening of Jill McBane’s Boutique Shawville Shooz, Summerfield felt it was a great opportunity for a few local businesses to team up and showcase one another.
Summerfield said that she had decided against doing any more fashion shows since her last one in 2014. However, her daughters changed her mind and told her to work her magic to help bring exposure to both the Little Red Wagon Winery and Boutique Shawville Shooz.
“It attracts a new group to the local winery,” Summerfield said. “We have to support each other otherwise we’re done.”
The more than $2,000 raised at the event will be donated to the Shawville Community Hospital Foundation.
The fashion show featured four different sections that showed off everything from spring dresses, summer leisure, cruisewear and cocktail outfits.
The models – Sheila Lawn, Claudette Stanton, Janey MacDougall and Kathy Black – each wore four outfits and went from table to table giving everyone a closer look at the fabrics.
Many of the outfits were made by Canadian designers.
The more than 100 mostly-women in attendance were treated to a free glass of wine to get things started.
“Their red wine is really good, and I’m hard to please,” Summerfield said with a laugh.
The event marks the 11th anniversary of the opening of Boutique Gwendoline.
Summerfield said it was hard work getting the script written, getting the models fitted and getting the clothes in order.
Although she’s more than happy to step up and help out fellow businesses, the event puts a lot on her plate.
“I’ll be really relieved when it’s done,” she said.
