After a blustery Friday night, with the possibility of a cancellation of the spring opener competition at Westar Farm in Stittsville, Ont., Saturday morning dawned clear and calm for the Inspired Rider Team from Aylmer, Luskville, Shawville and Chelsea. The team is coached by former National Coach Lorraine Laframboise with riders from Pontiac, Gatineau and Chelsea.
Reserve Champ was Cadence Beck (14, Shawville) aboard her black large pony Mia-No-It-All who is stabled at Calliope’s Pasture in Luskville. Beck bought Mia when she was only 4 and ‘green-broke’.
Beck has been carefully bringing her along and was over the moon to have won the first class of the day.
“That’s the first class I have won with Mia in the last two years because she was so young when we started,” said Beck. “She had a lot to learn before I could go fast enough to win. She was awesome all day.”
The champion and reserve are calculated by points won in each of three classes, the most points being awarded to first place. The Westar show was the first in the region, the next one is this weekend at Wesley Clover Park in Nepean, Ont.
