Congratulations go out to Chris Hayes of Chapeau who had played in a playoff game for the Boston Bruins in 1971-1972, of which they went on to win the Stanley Cup. Forty-six years later, in 2018, he received his Stanley Cup diamond ring World Champions with his name engraved on it. Long overdue but better late than never. Chris started his career playing for the Lumber Kings in Pembroke, Ont. He retired to his hometown of Chapeau Que., near the Upper Pontiac Sports Complex. Being modest, the hockey children who play weekly had no idea that they had a Stanley Cup Champion living in their community.
On Saturday past, the Schryer triplets, Louis, Dan and Pierre celebrated their birthday at the Sault. Two hundred family, friends and fans gathered at the Tech Theatre to celebrate their 50th, dubbed ‘Schryer 150.’ It had been 25 years since they performed together in Sault Ste Marie. We are very proud and happy to have at least one of these renown Fiddlers in our community. Congratulations and best wishes to all three.
Just a reminder The Sheen Book Club will be hosted at my house on Thursday this week. The book for discussion: The Wild Card author, Luke Murphy, Shawville, Que.
