A single vehicle crash on late Sunday afternoon left many without power, with all signs pointing to the driver falling asleep at the wheel.
Emergency services responded to an accident on Hwy. 148 in Clarendon, where a vehicle with Ontario plates was found in the ditch, with a nearby hydro pole broken.
“The investigation is ongoing, but every indication is that she fell asleep at the wheel,” said Sgt. Marc Tessier. “That could be one of the factors involved with the accident, but it’s not closed.”

The accident occurred around 4 p.m., just within Clarendon limits on the highway, between chemin de Bristol Clarendon South and 6th Concession. The vehicle had snapped the hydro pole and landed on a fence on the property.
While the airbags were deployed, the driver was reported to be without injury. The woman in her 60s was taken to hospital just in case.
“The person was injured, not very seriously,” said Tessier. “She was sent to the hospital in Shawville by precautionary measures.”
No one else was in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
The accident knocked out power to many nearby buildings for the rest of the evening.
“There was a power failure yesterday [affecting] 217 customers,” said Julie Léonard, a media representative from Hydro Quebec.
Léonard continued to say that power was out from 3:53 p.m. until 11:16 that night, because of the broken pole.
“We had to change the poles,” said Léonard. “Everything was done yesterday.”
