The Quyon Lions Club hosted their annual fundraiser curling bonspiel on Saturday at the curling rink in Shawville. Sixteen teams competed throughout the day with each team playing two games. Once the final points were tallied, the winning team was declared to be The Rink Gals: Darleen Murray, Phyllis Wilson, Mary Ann Abrams and Debbie Smith. The 50/50 draw was won by Rolly Bernier. It was a great day, with lots of laughs and fun both on and off the ice.
In between curling games, we made it over to Boutique Shawville Shooz for the grand opening. The store looks beautiful and there were many ladies there shopping and congratulating Jill McBane on her new business venture. Best wishes Jill.
St. Patrick’s Day is coming up on Saturday but Quyon celebrated early as our big parties were held last weekend. The Legion put on their annual St. Pat’s Kitchen Party on Saturday night with a great crowd out to enjoy the Irish tunes. Then on Sunday, Gavan’s Hotel opened its doors for their legendary party welcoming St. Paddy’s Day revelers from far and wide. Gail Gavan was on hand to host the festivities which included a steady line-up of wonderful musicians and step-dancers to keep the crowd entertained. It was a wonderful way to kick off the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.
The young women of the Quyon Pastoral Charge will be hosting their annual Irish Tea on St. Patrick’s Day this year at Quyon United Church on March 17 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will also be tickets available on the Basket O’ Irish Fun which is always overflowing with everything green. It will be raffled off at the end of the tea. Wear your green and join us, all are welcome.

Condolences to the family of Joe Teevens who passed away on March 8 at the age of 80. A member of the Ottawa Valley Country Music Hall of Fame, he was well known in our area as a wonderful musician and entertainer. He will be greatly missed and his legend will live on in his music.
