Congratulations to Denise Roberge of Sheenboro who won the soup tasting contest at George’s Bar in Chichester on Friday evening. There were nine pots of different soups to choose from and Denise’s cream of vegetable was voted number one.
The students of DWK (Dr. Wilbert Keon School) took part in a regional competition Destination Imagination in Hull. The grade 7 and 8 students received a gold medal for their project, Saturn’s Ring. The elementary students of Grade 5 and 6 also received a gold medal for their project. This is a great achievement for the students and teachers of this small Western Quebec School. The students will now be going on to represent the province at the International competition in Tennessee. The cost for this trip will be approximately $10,000. Fundraising will be required and I am told that it has already started. A tip of the hat to Cameron Ranger who won $85 on the 50/50 at the school hockey and volleyball tournaments last week. He donated $65 back to go towards the trip to Tennessee. Cameron’s great uncle Donat Ranger will match his donation.
Birthday greetings and best wishes go out to my daughter-in-law Sonya Ranger and my two cousins Lolita Needham and Kim Chaput Glofcheske on March 5, to Marriette Sallafranque on March 7, Larry Gleason, Lois Ranger and Barry Ferguson on March 8 and on March 10 to Gilles Martin, Jason Haynes and my sister Donna. She and I share the same birthday.
The Jim Beattie Musical Tour of Ireland and the Ottawa Valley on Sunday in Sheenboro was a great success. It was nice to see support from as far as Shawville, Ottawa, Oxford Mills and our local communities. A wonderful stew dinner was prepared by volunteers and served at 5 pm with homemade bread baked by Penny and desserts by local Sheen folks. A display of Sheen quilts draped the windows, making a beautiful atmosphere.
