Double good wishes are going out to Sharon and Wayne Hobbs on the safe arrival of their twins, a girl named Raelynn and a boy named Finnley on Feb. 20. They are new little siblings for big sister Emma and big brother Hayden. Congratulations to the whole family.
A big gang from the Pontiac departed on Saturday morning for Punta Cana. They were not only looking forward to sunshine and relaxation, but also the marriage of Ashley Baker and Shane Powell. I can only imagine how much fun they must be having this week. Wishing them all a safe and memorable trip.
The Canada Day Committee in Quyon is hosting their annual online Facebook auction kicking off their fundraising efforts for the 2018 celebration. Bidding opened last Friday and will run until March 16. There is a great selection of goods and services so be sure to join the group if you haven’t already and get your bids in.
Birthday wishes are going out to Maureen McKenny, celebrating on March 4. Happy days to everyone celebrating this week.
I’ve had such fun watching the Winter Olympics over the past few weeks. I’m always a little sad when the games are over but so very proud of our country’s athletes. This was Canada’s best showing ever at the Games, with Team Canada bringing home a record 29 medals, finishing third overall in the medal standings. Highlights for me were watching John Morris and Kaitlyn Lawes take gold in the Mixed Doubles Curling, Mikael Kingsbury’s golden run in the Men’s Moguls and of course, seeing Canada’s flag bearers Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir bring home gold in both the Team Figure Skating and Ice Dance events.
As I mentioned last week, it was also so much fun to watch Mirela “Mimi” Rahneva compete in the Skeleton. It was nice to see the video clip of the Canadian Tire Red Door to Pyeongchang with Mimi as family and friends who were cheering her on from home gathered to wish her well. There were some familiar faces in the video as Ian MacKechnie and his sisters Sue, Brenda and Heather were all there to show their support for Valentina’s daughter. What a special moment. Congratulations to all of our Canadian athletes who did so well and made us so proud.
A reminder that, soup and sandwich is on today at Quyon United Church.
