On Dec. 28 the Maloney family got together at Bill and Anita Sawyers’ to celebrate Neil’s birthday. Their daughter Julie also announced that she had won a trip for two, all inclusive to Barbados, on the CTV Morning Live Ottawa. Congratulations to both of you.

Congratulations to John Hilborn, a CRL (Chalk River Laboratories) alumnus, prominent member of Canada’’s nuclear industry and active community supporter in the town of Deep River, Ont. He has been appointed to the Order of Canada. This appointment recognizes his many innovative contributions as a physicist in the development of Canada’s nuclear industry. Among the notable highlights, he led the development of the self-powered neutron flux detector and the SLOWPOKE research reactor. John has owned property in the Municipality of Sheenboro for many years. Oiseaux Bay, located across from Chalk River, is now operated by his son Cam Hilborn.
Congratulations to Connie Mercier of Ottawa on the birth of her first grandchild, Hudson, weighing 8 lbs., born to her daughter Stacey and John on Jan. 7. Proud great grandparent is Betty Picard Mercier.

This year our family celebrated a special New Year’s. Our niece Elysha Brears celebrated her golden birthday on Dec. 30 and her mom and dad made arrangements to bus everyone to the Golf Steak House in Kitchener, Ont. Her sister Brittany was also home from Vancouver, BC.
