The Pontiac Lions Midget A team led a strong offense against the Gatineau Barons on Saturday, sliding pucks into the net like it was their day job.
Embracing teamwork, and a bit of rough-housing, the Lions wasted no time in this game, scoring their first goal less than a minute into the game.
From there, they made sure to keep the Barons at bay while they worked their magic, leading the game 4 – 0 by the third period. Letting the Gatineau team redeem themselves a bit, the final score was 5 – 2 in favour of the Lions.
Justin Dagenais scored the first goal of the game, with an assist from Kaleb Hodgins, while Aidan Turner followed their lead a few minutes later with an assist from Evan Atkinson.
Second period saw Nic Emmerson fire in their third goal all by himself, and the fourth was sunk by Atkinson, with an assist from Turner. The fifth goal belonged again to Atkinson, without any help.
“Moving forward into the end of the season, tournaments and playoffs, the team needs to have better puck support in the corners and make an effort to use their ability to cycle the puck and be strong on power plays and penalty kills,” said head coach Ray Curley, on where the team needs a bit of work.
Next up for the Midget A team are three games this weekend, with only one at home. On Friday they’ll play the Aylmer Icebergs at Robinson, Saturday they’ll play the Aylmer Vikings in Duchesnay and Sunday will see them at home against the Vikings again.
“Sunday, Jan. 14 at 4:30 will be our last Midget A home game of the season,” said Curley. “We encourage our fans to come out and cheer us on and have a look at the team before our home town tournament.”
