After rejecting the first two rounds of bidding for snow removal in Quyon, the Municipality of Pontiac has settled on a more affordable option.
The municipal council approved the bid of Mountainview Turf for $801,950.66 over a five year period.
This averages out to about $160,000 per year.
The last time the contract went to tender, the municipality got bids of $388,040 and $275,940 respectively.
This represented a significant increase over last year’s cost for snow removal, which was around $99,000. The bid also wasn’t indexed for things like fuel cost increases.
Municipality of Pontiac Director of Communications, Dominic Labrie, said that the cost for snow removal is estimated at about $150,000.
He said the new contract gives the municipality greater certainty when it comes to a regular expense like snow removal.
The new bid also includes the removal of snowbanks in Quyon, something that the previous contract did not include.
“The council was very happy with this bid,” Labrie said. “So, basically,
the decision to go back
to tender saved
us $100,000
per year.”
