After another bout of extreme rainfall that affected several roadways in the municipality, work is about to begin to repair one stretch of road that was severely affected.
A three-metre-wide stretch of chemin Alary was washed out on Oct. 30 after more than 100 mm of rain fell over the course of the weekend.
The paved section of chemin Alary was wiped out and all that remains is a 10 foot-deep chasm that stretches about nine feet in length.

According to the head of the Municipality of Pontiac communications, Dominic Labrie, council met on Nov. 14 to determine what to do going forward. Labrie said the minimum cost to repair the roadway would be $100,000.
The municipality can apply for a provincial grant from the ministry of public safety. Any municipality in the MRC des Collines is eligible to compensation in response to the latest round of flooding in the region.
The municipality pays the first $18,000, and will pay 75 per cent of the additional cost with the province picking up the extra 25 per cent.
The first step is getting a tender for a new culvert after the old one failed. Once that happens, Labrie said the municipality already has contractors ready to finish the job.
“It [will move] fast because we already have prices for that kind of machinery,” Labrie said.
Labrie said the goal is to have the road repaired before the winter.
“We have to move fast,” he said.
While there are other roads that need care after the recent deluge, the main concern for the municipality is chemin Alary.
“We’ve fixed all other roads,” Labrie said. “There’s some minor work to do on chemin de la Montagne but it’s not a big deal.”
“All other roads are perfectly driveable,” he added. “It’s not an issue.”
