Despite it being a cold and rainy day on Sunday, there was a decent turnout at the Cenotaph for the Quyon Legion’s Remembrance Day Parade and Service. People huddled under their umbrellas for the traditional service while many wreaths were laid on behalf of local organizations and in memory of loved ones. A light lunch followed at the Legion which was a nice opportunity to warm up and enjoy fellowship after the touching service.
Sunday was also municipal election day across our area with voters heading to the polls to have their voices heard. Congratulations to all candidates who ran in the election as it takes great courage to put your name on the ballot. Wishing our new Mayor Joanne Labadie and councillors Sue McKay, Nancy Maxsom, Tom Howard, Scott McDonald, Isabelle Patry and Leslie-Anne Barber all the best as they take on this new mandate in our beautiful Municipality of Pontiac.
Congratulations to Leigh Dolan and Matt Greer who celebrated their recent marriage in Las Vegas with a reception on Saturday night. Family and friends gathered to toast the happy couple and honour this special occasion. Wishing them a lifetime of happiness and love.
Birthday wishes are going out to Vicky Leach on Nov. 12, to Bill Hamilton on Nov. 13 and to Hannah Dowe, as she turns three on Nov. 14.
Happy anniversary to Donald and Maureen McKenny as they marked 45 years of marriage on Nov. 6. Best wishes to all celebrating special occasions this week.
I’m looking forward to getting a start on my Christmas shopping this coming Saturday at the annual Onslow Christmas Craft Show. There is always a great selection of local vendors, artisans and baked goods to choose from and Santa Claus will also be making an appearance. It’s always the perfect event to put me in the Christmas spirit. There will be a moment of silence observed at 11 a.m. in honour of Remembrance Day and students will be reading “In Flanders Fields”.
