I hope all you fathers had a great Father’s Day. I enjoyed seeing all the pictures of your dads posted on Facebook. Such great memories. There were a lot of special. . .
meals prepared for those special men.
Carl, Shelly and Tao finally were able to come to visit after such a long year. They spent the weekend at Paul and Theresa’s cottage on Litchfield Lake. Theresa and I had prepared the cottage and stocked it with food. As usual we bought too much but we thought Corben was going to come too. He had to work so he didn’t come down. He also has a girlfriend now so grandmothers are put on the back burner.
They arrived Friday night about 10:30 p.m. and we talked for a little bit and crashed. The next morning, we all headed to the cottage. It was an absolutely beautiful day to be by the lake. Cheryl Mayhew and Dennis O’Connor came for a visit (respecting COVID safety protocol) and brought a four quart basket of fresh strawberries. They were so good.
We also had Cindy and Olivia for a while. Then Jeff, Shelly and the girls came and we all sat around outside enjoying the lake and trading stories.
On Sunday, Fathers Day, Tao cooked the rib eye steaks and we had baked potatoes and garden salad. We topped the supper off with fruit pizza. What a great meal. It was so nice to be with family again. They stayed overnight at the cottage and then left Monday to head back to Port Carling. I wish they could stay longer but they have to go back to work.
So much happened this week. I had spent most of the week with Sharon Crawford and Bruce Hodgins but I needed to come home to prepare the cottage. I hated to leave them. I did go back Friday afternoon to see Bruce one last time as it turned out. The next morning Bruce passed away in hospital.
My heart breaks for my friend Sharon Crawford on the loss of her husband, Bruce Hodgins on June 19. My deepest sympathies go out to his children, Kerry, Chad and Jeffrey and to his brothers Doug and Reuben and sister Donna. Everyone who knew him loved him. Bruce was such a wonderful person to be around. He will be missed by all his fishing and hunting buddies. All of his grandchildren adored and loved him and will miss him so much. He will leave a void in so many people’s lives.
Summer has officially come and we finally are getting that rain we needed. I had to replant my beans and cukes. It took the rain to bring everything to life. The garden just took off in leaps and bounds.
I hope that this rain will help all the farmers with their crops. I know that the lawns sure loved it as did the flowerbeds and gardens. I’ll be eating lettuce, green onions and radish this week. I love the garden fresh veggies. I also bought my first snack of McGreggor’s strawberries last week and although they are not too big they sure are juicy and sweet.
This week my cousin Bob Mayhew is supposed to visit.
Everyone I know has had their COVID shot and I got my second one on June 17. Yeah. The borders are open so now we can travel a bit. It was so enjoyable going to Renfrew and just seeing new half faces. Some people we can recognize by their eyes and others we have to recognize by their gait. We still have to keep our masks on and sanitize but at least we can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Happy birthday wishes go out to Sunyoung Mayhew, Sarah Hearty and Patrick Hearty on June 23, to Patrick Quinn and Alex Kluke on June 24, to Brian Corriveau and Alistair Hill on June 25 to Steve Romain, Mallory Corriveau and Phillippe Paquette on June 28 and to Phil Dubeau on June 29.
Happy anniversary to Vera and Michael Mayor on June 24, to Sandra and Brendan Sauriol and to Meghan and Kyle Bertrand on June 25.
Happy Saint Jean Baptiste Day.
