A very special, happy 65th birthday goes out to my cousin Roger Mayhew of Russell, Ont. who celebrates Dec. 18. I just want to point out that I’m sorry for everyone who is celebrating a milestone birthday or anniversary this year and next because we’re not able to celebrate with you. It’s not that we don’t want to celebrate, we sure do and our hearts are all with you.

Other people celebrating their birthdays are . . .

Lisa Dagenais and Carol Kavanagh on Dec. 18, Bonnie Beauregard and Michael Kluke on Dec. 19, Linda Frost on Dec. 20, Luc Dubeau and Angela Lance on Dec. 22, Bob Laporte on Dec. 23, Willard Kluke on Dec. 25, Tarrin Hill on Dec. 29, Lise Kluke, Andy Holland, Cory Duquette and Lori Smith on Dec. 30.

It looks like we’re going to have a green Christmas. We have had them before and I remember even having a lightning and thunder storm on Christmas Day so it’s not really unusual. I personally would rather have the snow because the cold doesn’t feel so cold. Although the temperature is dipping down to -13 Celsius and -15 Celsius this week and we will have to fire up a little harder.

This week, I am busy making fresh lasagnas. Some are made with spinach and some with cottage cheese and I have different sizes to sell. It’s a busy time of the year and this is a quick, easy meal to pop in the oven. I also have the meat and turkey pot pie’s that are very quick for your busy days. I am making a new array of cookies this week and I’m quite happy to take orders for any specialty foods or baking you would like.

I’m just trying to keep busy and keep out of trouble. You know what they say about idle hands. Then after Christmas I’m going to get started on all my woodworking and refinishing of the extra tables and furniture I have. I just love bringing old furniture to life again.

The galloping grannies went to see our children to celebrate Corben’s 18th birthday and an early Christmas. Again, I ask you not to judge us because we only stopped for gas once on the way there and once on the way back and I have all my hand sanitizer and wipes in the truck. I also carry my own porta potty. The grandchildren are not in school at all in a facility. They are schooling from home and everyone is COVID free. We brought down all the Christmas presents early and celebrated while we were there because we don’t think we’re going to be allowed to travel anymore.

We had a great weekend with them. I brought down an exercise bench for the boys but it had to be cleaned up and a new seat put on it so we reupholstered that and they quickly set it up and started the work out.

Shelley, Theresa and I baked cookies on Saturday because Shelley wanted to box up some to pass out to her neighbours and friends. I had gotten up early on Saturday morning and made a great big pot of chicken vegetable alphabet soup which the whole family enjoyed.

Corben wanted scalloped potatoes, shake and bake chicken and frozen vegetables for his birthday supper so that’s what he got. The night before Shelley made him his birthday cake which was an apple caramel cheesecake, so his birthday supper was a big success.

Shelley and Carl gave me and Theresa Corben’s graduation pictures. It’s hard to believe he’s 18 already and graduated. It seems like yesterday he was just born. How time flies. We got there on Friday afternoon around one and left at 11:30 on Sunday so it doesn’t make for that long a time there. It’s always really hard to leave.

The whole trip was pretty uneventful. We didn’t see any animals or accidents. The weather was really good so it made it really great for travelling. There was a lot of snow in Algonquin Park mind you but that was the only place. It had snowed at night and they had the roads real clean when we were on them.
