Summer is officially here and the weather made sure to let us know. I hope everyone stayed cool during that heat wave, it sure was a scorcher this past week. I also hope . . .
all of the great dads and father figures celebrated over the weekend, whether it be by golfing, fishing, barbecuing or just relaxing with their families. While there are many reasons to dislike these pandemic days, it is kind of nice to have more time to just spend with the people we care about.
On Friday evening, my mom and I went up to Shawville to watch the Grad Parade for the 2020 graduates of Pontiac High and what an event that was. It was so neat to see the unique way they found to honour this year’s graduating class. Vehicles donated and driven by business owners and dignitaries from all over our area paraded down the streets of Shawville, each with a grad in the back, while their families, friends and community members waved and cheered them on. They ended the parade at the Pontiac Agricultural grounds where they posed for a physically distanced aerial photo and Principal Deb Stephens addressed the graduating class from above in the bucket of a fire truck. What a memorable occasion for the Class of 2020. Congratulations to all of them.
Congratulations to Quyon native, David Coyle who was recently named one of Ottawa’s Forty Under Forty recipients by the Ottawa Business Journal. Dave is the district building systems manager for PCL Constructors Canada. According to the Ottawa Business Journal website, Dave was part of the leadership team that helped build a temporary heating plant after a tragic explosion badly damaged the Cliff Heating and Cooling Plant in Ottawa in 2009. He has also had a hand in the building systems of many of the city’s most recognizable buildings including the Canadian War Museum, Constitution Square Tower Three and West Block. He is the main contact for a large number of PCL’s dealings with local mechanical and electrical subcontractors and is often asked for by name among clients. Dave, you have done so well and are very deserving of this recognition. Your family and friends are so proud of you.
