While most celebrations and events have been cancelled for the foreseeable future due to COVID-19, there is one special event coming up . . .
very worthy of its cause. On June 19, the 2020 graduates of Pontiac High School will be celebrated with a parade around Shawville in honour of their accomplishments. I’m sure this isn’t the way they thought things would go this year and this isn’t the celebration they envisioned, but kudos to all who are making this parade happen for them. They are so deserving of recognition which complies to the physical distancing rules in place during this pandemic.
Family and friends are invited to line the streets of Shawville (the parade route can be found on Facebook) at 6 p.m. Friday to cheer on the grads. I hope this is a fantastic evening in their honour.
With the Grad Parade coming up this Friday, I’d like to give a special shout-out to all of our Quyon area grads: Tyler Armitage, Shawn Belland, Joelene Cormier-Laxdal, Nicholas Curley, Myriam Dagenais, Chelsea Desjardins, Camryn Chevrier Gibbons, Cale Howard, Joseph Proulx, Rilen Richardson, Steven Trudeau, and Riley Wilkinson. Congratulations to all of you. Your family, friends and community are so proud of each and every one of you!
It is hard to believe, but it has been 20 years since my Class of 2000 graduated high school. Where does the time go? I have such great memories of the end of our school year and our graduation. I hope this year’s grads are able to hang in there and have patience, you will have that big party all together someday soon, I have faith in that.
Congratulations to Glen and Dianne Leach who celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on June 14.
Happy 90th Birthday to Alice Dolan as she marked this milestone occasion on June 15. The community honoured Alice’s birthday with a parade of classic cars, as well as friends and family on bikes and on foot, past her home on Clarendon Street. The parade is becoming our community’s way of honouring these big occasions during pandemic times. Mona and Laurie MacKechnie were also treated to a parade of classic cars and friends from the Lions Club at St. Joseph’s Manor last Thursday for their 65th anniversary. I am so proud of everyone for finding ways to make these days special, even when we aren’t able to have our traditional parties.
Happy first birthday to Harrison Greer, celebrating on June 19. Birthday wishes are also going out to Molly Dowe, as she turns nine on June 19. I’d like to wish a happy birthday to my niece, Neve Young, and to my cousin, Ryla Platt as they turn eight and nine respectively on June 21. Happy birthday to Rory Armitage and Randy Labadie, also on June 21. Best wishes to everyone celebrating this week.
Wishing all of the wonderful dads a very happy Father’s Day coming up this Sunday. I miss my dad every day. Be sure to treat your dads and all father figures well this weekend, and all the year through.
