Vendors gathered at the Quyon Community Centre Saturday morning for the annual Christmas Craft Sale. The event was a fundraiser put on by the Onslow Home and School Committee and raised over $2,000 for the school.

This year, the money raised will contribute to purchasing 30 pairs of snowshoes for students at the school.

“In the last couple years, we’ve been doing a lot of outdoor classroom things to get the kids out more during the day,” said Stacy Johnston, organizer of the market. “So, this year we decided to purchase our own sets for the kids.”

Johnston is the former president of the Home and School Committee. She stepped down when her children graduated from the school but continues to run the market, which she said is very popular in the community.

“[The vendors] are all local and I try not to have multiple of the same thing,” Johnston said. “I have a waitlist of 30 different vendors that want a spot so every year I have a couple new vendors.”

Many guests wandered through the market looking at handmade holiday decorations, jewelry, honey products, baked goods, and more.

Some of Onslow’s Grade 6 students were also busy on Saturday raising money for their upcoming graduation trip.

They had a raffle featuring prizes donated by the vendors from the market, including four tickets to see the Ottawa 67’s hockey team. In total, they raised over $700 for the trip. Julie Bastien, the parent of one of the graduating students, said that they hope to bring the class either to Mont Cascades or Flying Squirrel.
