The second fatal fire in Quyon in as many weeks destroyed a business and also claimed the life of one man in the early hours of Dec. 4.
Municipality of Pontiac Fire Chief Richard Groulx said that the first call came in at 6:40 a.m., to the business Young’s Appliances, at 6225 Hwy. 148.

“The first unit arrived maybe 10 minutes later, and it was fully involved,” he said. “The roof was caved in. [There was] nothing we could do. We tried to extricate a victim from the house, but we weren’t able to pull him out.”
Groulx explained that there were also two residential units attached to the building.
“It was a mixed property,” he said. “You had a shop in the front and [there] was the apartment of the tenant and there was an apartment in the back but it was empty.”
Groulx said the investigation into the blaze was conducted by police, as is procedure when there is a fatality.
Despite multiple requests for information by The Equity, MRC des Collines Police did not respond in time for print.
