CAMPBELL’S BAY

A handful of people gathered at the SADC office in Campbell’s Bay on October 3 for a presentation about . . .
the new liaison officer service offered by the Canada Revenue Agency. The two officers, Janet Avery and Steve Kos, discussed tax issues facing small businesses and self-employed individuals, such as claiming expenses for use of your home or vehicle.
SADC business advisor Amy Taylor explained that any entrepreneur can book consultation with a liaison officer to have their books examined, and added that they wouldn’t be searching for any impropriety.
“They won’t go back and audit, they don’t have access to your file,” she said. “They just help you to be better prepared going forward.”
The seminar was one of many offered throughout the year, and Taylor said that the officers would be returning in the winter. On October 23 the SADC will be organizing a bus trip to Quinn Farm near Montreal to learn about agri-tourism, as well as seminars on various subjects like Google advertising, managing online stores and insurance issues in the coming months.
