SHAWVILLE Jan. 5, 2019
The Shawville Curling Club hosted its annual Farmers’ Bonspiel on Jan. 5, with 12 teams hitting the ice over the course of the day.
Organizer Eric Smith has been overseeing the event for around 10 years and said the spots filled up quickly this year.
He added that there are no prizes, but a donation is made to the Blessed Cupboard food bank.
Though the event was started as a way for local farmhands to get together and socialize, it’s open to people of all occupations. It was started nearly 40 years ago by Phyllis and Lorne Wilson.
A team made up of Jeff Russell, Joey Hannaberry, Andrew Rowat and Ben Judd took home the coveted plough trophy at the end of the day.
