The Carrefour jeunesse-emploi du Pontiac’s local division, Le Défriche, has built eight new bike repair stations across the PPJ as part of their equipiste project.

The two-year-project was developed in 2020 by a group of students from Ecole secondaire Sieur-de-Coulonge in the hopes of helping riders repair their bikes if they break down on the PPJ.

“Users along the bike path would have issues with flat tires and things like that. And that shortened their trip because there was nothing around to help fix their bike,’ said Eric Soucie. “So that stemmed the need to put the [stations] along the bike path.”

Last week, Biciborne delivered and installed the new stations in:

  • Bristol, near the entrance to the PPJ
  • Clarendon, past Francon road
  • Campbell’s Bay, near Second street
  • Mansfield-et-Pontefract, near Davidson
  • Isle-aux-Allumettes, at East Range road
  • Isle-aux-Allumettes, at Cottage road
  • Portage-du-Fort, near the entrance to the Pontiac
  • Otter Lake

Last year, three stations were installed in Waltham, Vinton and Bristol.

The station’s coordinates are displayed on Biciborne and Vlo-Quebec’s maps.

Stations are equipped with an air pump and a variety of tools, such as screwdrivers, a wrench, an allen key set and a tire changer.

After receiving training from Biciborne, the MRC Pontiac will be responsible for maintenance of the bike stations.
