Former Pontiac candidate for the Conservative Party of Canada Michel Gauthier is throwing his hat in the political ring once again.
In a press release issued Monday, Gauthier announced he has submitted his candidacy for the Conservative nomination for the federal riding of Pontiac.
“This government is a national disaster, with totally incompetent and irresponsible management of public finances,” the release quotes Gauthier as saying.
“But there’s also the fact that this government has never lifted a finger for the important issues in the Outaouais and Pontiac. The issues I defended in 2021 are still with us, they’re still unresolved,” said Gauthier.
Among the failures of the Liberal government of particular concern to Gauthier are development of the tramway project in west Gatineau, preservation of the Alexandra Bridge connecting Gatineau to Ottawa, management of teleworking in the public service, and exploring alternatives to the Chalk River nuclear waste disposal site.
“The Liberal government is allowing this [nuclear waste] project to go ahead, without considering alternatives, despite widespread opposition in the region,” says Gauthier’s press release.
The release says that while it is not known when the next federal election will be held, Gauthier is comfortable with any scenario, whether it is as early as this spring or the fall of 2025.
