Women firefighters from across the Pontiac join Mansfield photoshoot

Nine female firefighters from across the Pontiac got together in Mansfield on Saturday for a group photo.

The point of the event was two-fold. One was to produce an image that could encourage women to become firefighters. The other was for the production and sale of a calendar to raise money for the family of 35-year-old Kazabazua firefighter Luc Harper who passed away unexpectedly in June.

Projecting strength with the help of the Wonder Woman logo on their t-shirts, the women from six different brigades also wore blackened firefighter crests on their sleeves to honour Harper’s memory.

Sonya Rivington of the Mansfield Fire Department organized the event, inviting women from fire departments across the Pontiac to join the photo shoot.

“This photo shoot was organized to promote women in firefighting, woman power and that not only men can do this job,” said Danika Newberry, a firefighter in training with the Fort Coulonge Fire Department, in a conversation with THE EQUITY.
