Students were given the opportunity to visit St. John’s Elementary School after the last bell rang to experience an evening of fun organised by the Governing Board with support from teachers and administration.

“The governing board decided that it was time to open the school up to the community. Since covid we haven’t been able to have many activities so we thought it would be nice to welcome the whole community,” said governing board member Rebecca Tracy.

The group organized many kid-friendly activities including “Touch-A-Truck” in the . . .

school parking lot, bouncy castles in the gymnasium, an appearance from Echo the Clown, and face painting. Parents could enjoy the barbeque and enter in the raffle for a chance to win tickets to the firework show at Casino Lac Leamy.

All proceeds from food, raffle and 50/50 draw sales went towards the student’s end of year trip. This year because of the bus strike, students are doing their end of year activities at the local park. Students will have the opportunity to play in the splash pad and on bouncy castles.

Isaac Crawford, a student at St. John’s said that he is looking forward to the trip and he is most excited to eat ice cream.

St. John’s principal, Lorianne Bertrand, noted that her favourite thing about community night is showing how despite there being two schools and two school boards in one building, she loves that the community night brings everyone together.

“Seeing that we’re not one school or the other school, that we are one community. Seeing that is probably one of the best things,” said Bertrand.
