Congratulations to our good friends George and Erla Picard of George’s Bar in Chichester who will be celebrating their 46th wedding anniversary on Sept. 22.
Congratulations to Steve and Mary Beth Jones who celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary with family and friends on the weekend at their summer home in Sheenboro. The party was hosted by their six beautiful children and we can’t forget the grandchildren who were also very busy helping their parents to serve dinner.
On Aug. 22, a bus load of seniors from Allumette Island, Waltham, Chichester and Sheenboro went to Owl Rafting for a steak dinner and a sunset cruise on the Ottawa River. The trip was organized through Jamieson Travel of Beachburg, Ont. When we arrived we were met by our gracious hosts, Art and Dot Jamieson. Art, his brother Guy, and Leo Reddy, whom most of us know for his fine fiddling at George’s Bar in Chichester, entertained us at the restaurant and on the boat. While we were cruising we were served our dessert and even had time for dancing. Thank you all. It was a great trip and not far from home.
The Chapeau and District Lions Club’s 4th annual Duck Race was part of the Allumette Island Festival on the weekend. Seven hundred and fifty ducks were dumped off the Chapeau bridge heading for the finish line located at the dock. Unfortunately the organizers were unable to control the strong east wind sending the ducks back up the river. They decided that it would be best to make the draws with the tickets at the music stage. The lucky winners were JP Lariviere, $1,000, Kevin St. Louis, $750, and the third prize of $400 went to Daisy Chartrand, Lucy and Yogis’ little dog. The fourth prize of $250 and fifth prize of $150 were won by Bert Collin and Wade Miaka of Pembroke, Ont.
Our MNA and candidate for the upcoming election, André Fortin, also attended the festival. At the same time he visited the Residence Meilleur Site, a provincial project which is well underway. A great day for all and I hear the ribs served by Cheryl were excellent.
Don’t forget the Amphibious Swim Run Challenge starting at 9 a.m. at the Fort on Sept. 8. See you all there.
