That hailstorm we had last Sunday caused a lot of damage in Fort Coulonge and Mansfield. They received golf ball sized hail which damaged a lot of cars and destroyed gardens. They got hit a lot worse than Vinton. I saw a picture of a garden just up the road about a mile from me and that garden looked like someone had taken a whipper snipper to it. So I was lucky and got away with a whole garden.
Those poor cows out there being pelted by hail. That’s one way of tenderizing the meat. I was scared so I can just imagine how those poor animals felt.
My sister Lynn, started a new job at the sanitation station. She is the gatekeeper. She has to weigh the vehicles on their way in and out so she can charge them accordingly. She saw four bears on her first day and I asked her what they gave her for protection. She told me, a horn. Apparently that’s all you need to scare them away. She goes to work at four or five different landfill sites around Greenwood. The furthest site is two hours away but she gets paid travel time so that’s ok. She’s very happy with this job because she gets to see a lot of people and it’s always different. Never boring that’s for sure.
Friday, Shelly came home for a visit. She came alone because Carl was on call and the boys were working. We had a great weekend together. We went yard saleing Saturday morning and I found myself a bakers rack and Shelly got herself some little treasures. In order to get the rack into my truck and close the door, we had to move the passenger seat to the max closest to the dash. Poor Shelly had to sit with her knees almost touching her nose on the way back home. It was really a tight squeeze.
I picked carrots, beets and zucchini out of the garden while Shelly made stuffed shells filled with spinach and ricotta. Theresa had given us a cucumber out of her garden so we had a cucumber sandwich for lunch. Shelly visited with Cindy Normandeau that evening and I washed my floors.
Sunday Cheryl Mayhew and her husband Dennis came from Manotick and we played a game of Pictionary. We laughed so much at each other’s drawings. It felt so good to be with other people and playing games and having fun. Then Theresa came and brought a Mexican dip and chips. We finished playing our game (which Dennis and Cheryl won) then had a snack.
We had to take our food to Theresas and cook it there instead. Power came back on before we came home at 8 p.m.
