We are in another heat wave. It’s too hot to even work in the garden. Anyone who wants zucchini, cucumbers or beans come and pick your own. Free. I don’t like to see it go to waste. Feel free to pull a few weeds at the same time.
I would like to congratulate Marilyn and John Patrick Sloan on the safe arrival of their second baby. Indy Penelope Sloan was born Aug. 12 weighing 8 lbs. 5oz.
The estate sale for Bruce Hodgins was a great success. It was a tremendous amount of work to prepare for especially in this heat. Sharon appreciates all her friends and family coming to help her. Without their help it wouldn’t have been possible to have the sale. She can’t get over all your kindness and devotion. She will never forget you.
I was talking to my sister Norma last week. She told me that her friends, Dave and Malu Campbell from Grand Forks were fed up with all the smoke in B.C. So they hooked up their camper, got in their truck and headed to the east coast. I told Norma to let them know they could stay here for a few days. I had never met them but Norma talks a lot about them so I feel I know them.
So, they took me up on my offer and landed here on Aug. 21 at noon. Malu is Philippine and Dave is Irish and they are such a cute couple. She worked as a travel agent for 35 years and took advantage of the vacation plan that comes with the job. You should have heard the stories they told me. They told me that the most beautiful and interesting countries to visit were Peru and Greece.
They had been camping for five days and I knew they would need to wash clothes, clean out their trailer and empty out their coolers. So this is what we did the rest of the day. Malu also wanted to take advantage of the Wifi and catch up with bills etc. We had a great day together and I was so happy they weren’t shy and made themselves at home. I made a bunch of ice for them, enough to make it to New Brunswick. They told me they paid as high as six dollars for a bag of ice in one place.
Sunday morning, they packed up and I made them a hot breakfast before they left. They would have stayed longer but they’re going out to look at a house in the East because they might move there. So they said they’ll stop in on the way back.
Does anyone know what this word means athazagoraphobia? It’s a fear of forgetting things. My fear is that I’ll never be able to remember that word.
I would like to wish the following people a very happy birthday: Tina Frost on Aug. 27, to Mario Ladouceur Aug. 28, to Suzanne Kluke on Aug. 31.
Happy anniversary wishes go out to Theresa and Fern Dagenais on Aug. 30, to RoseMarie and Raymond Shea and Laurel and Jim Kluke on Aug. 31.
At least the farmers here are able to get enough hay to feed their cattle for the winter. Out west they are not so lucky. One farmer I know in Manitoba had to sell his 300 sheep because they had no pasture anywhere. Cattle farmers are sending their cattle east for the same reason. Problem is there is not an abundance of feed here either so I guess the market will be flooded. What I don’t understand is how come the farmer loses? We need them to feed us. Oh yes, and by the way to all you vegetarians, the grain, corn and canola fields are also dried up so be expecting a big hike in groceries. These fires, floods and droughts are affecting us all.
Things are getting scary. Climate change, COVID and unrest are affecting all of us. I’m sure glad I live where I do. My own house, my own garden and my own peace of mind.
Sharon Crawford finally got her little pup that’s she’s been wanting for so long. It’s a Cocker poodle and it’s all black with two paws with a bit of white and a little tuft on her chest. She is naming her Luna. She is eight weeks old and weighs 4 lbs. 5 oz. So you have to watch not to step on her. What a sweetheart.
Time to do pickling. I made corn relish last week and I’m going to do beets next. I’ve already made a ton of zucchini fingers and frozen them. Hope you all have a great week.
