This is our first week of the 8 p.m. curfew for the province of Quebec. I’m sure Ontario will be next. It’s almost eerie looking out after 8 p.m. and not seeing any traffic or people walking around. Thank goodness it isn’t happening during summer. My biggest concern is . . .
the effect this is having on our mental health, especially on our teenagers. Teenagers are the most vulnerable group to be affected by being isolated, after all. They are extremely social during these impressionable years. Please keep the lines of communications flowing between you and your children. They need our support and understanding more than ever.
We really do need more mental health resources now more than ever. We need to reassure anyone who is in need of help that they are not alone and that it is not a problem they should hide or keep secret.
We are all in this together and some of us are stronger than others so we can help each other. The mental health line number is 1-418-663-5000 in Quebec City.
I would like to wish a happy, belated birthday to Jennifer Donnelly who celebrated on Jan. 11.
Happy birthday wishes go out to Anne Ireland and Min Belanger on Jan. 13, to Brad Belland, Jeanette Lepack and Helen Ranger on Jan. 15 and to Pat Shea on Jan. 16.
This has been an unbelievable winter weather wise. We hardly have any snow and we’ve had no big major snow storms so far this year. Not that I’m complaining but it makes it hard for people who want to cross country ski, slide, downhill ski, snowmobile, or do any other outdoor activities. It’s especially hard this year because we want to be outside and we can’t even build a snowman.
My internet connection is not the greatest in my area. Sometimes when people FaceTime me it looks as if I’m in prison because there’s bars up and down across my face. My sister Norma, who is a retired corrections officer from British Columbia, FaceTimed me the other day. She just happened to say how bad the bars were that day and that she had a hard time seeing me. I told her it shouldn’t be a problem for her because she’s used to looking at people behind bars. We both had a good laugh over that one.
Norma has been doing a lot of ice fishing the past few weeks. She catches mostly rainbow trout and brownies. She goes out just for fun and to keep her self busy. When she gets back home she goes around giving her fish to different people she thinks might enjoy some fresh fish. Who wouldn’t? What a great idea to share something you love doing.
Then she started telling me that she can hardly wait for me to go out so we can go fishing together. I hate to burst her bubble but it is not something I like doing. I told her I didn’t want to get $1,000 worth of clothes just to sit in the cold for four hours to catch a couple of fish. Then she told me, “Oh don’t worry about that, my friends have clothes that will fit you and it won’t cost you anything. But you have to try it.” I guess she’s right I will try it and maybe I will enjoy it being in the great outdoors in the middle of B.C. looking at the fantastic scenery. Only thing is I wish it was pickerel.
I’m sure she’s going to take me out on a lot of adventures and we’ll probably get into a lot of mischief together. I know for sure that we will be doing a lot of creations in her workshop and will have a great time doing that together.
So, this weekend I made more buns and I made three large pizzas. They were so good. I’m going to be making more cabbage rolls and turkey pot pies this week because my supplies are getting low. Still have lots of meat pies and beans and lasagna. I always have prepared frozen food that usually serve at least four people so feel free to call anytime and I’d be happy to help you.
Feel free to send me any of your funny stories so we can share them with everyone. Laughter is good medicine and I’ll share all my crazy stories but I’d like to hear from you too.
I have often thought of writing a book about the crazy adventures of the galloping grannies. I can tell you this much, it would keep you laughing from the first page read to the end.
