I have to tell you about the most wonderful wedding I went to on Oct. 10 in Manotick, Ont. It was the wedding of Cheryl Mayhew to Dennis O’Connor and it was held in their backyard with a total of 10 people at the ceremony. It was a very windy, sunny day with the temperature at 22C but there were threats of thunder showers. Fortunately the rain held out and they were able to get married in the backyard as planned. It was a very COVID wedding with everyone wearing masks and sitting six feet apart. I even made the . . .

bride and groom and Shelly, Carl and myself matching facemasks for our outfits.

The only people in attendance were the bride and groom, the groom’s parents, the maid of honour which was my daughter Shelly and her husband Carl, myself, the best friend and her husband and the minister. Of course she had two photographers but they stayed outside the whole time and kept their distance from all of us.

I made Cheryl’s wedding dress and her wedding cake and she was ecstatic at the outcome of both. So was I. I wasn’t sure I still had it in me but I pulled it off once again. It was a truly beautiful wedding, small mind you but memorable. The wedding dress was made of a navy blue velvet material on top and navy blue satin on the skirt. It was divided by a beautiful sash that was lined with richly coloured navy blue beads. I gave the dress a little cap sleeves and added pockets at the bride’s request. The shawl for the dress was purple and the flowers were navy, purple and fuchsia. Shelly’s dress was purple and the best friends dress was dark mauve. The groom’s suit was navy and he had on a purple shirt.

Until you have seen all these colours together you probably think it would clash but no they were absolutely stunning together. Of course, she had the tables decorated in the same colours along with the candles. I am posting pictures on Facebook but just of the ones I took. I know that the photographers took some extraordinary pictures but we won’t get them back for a while.

I was talking to my sister Lynn, who lives in Chilliwack BC, this weekend and she was telling me about the albino crow who seems to be sticking around the park in her area. When I was out there two years ago I saw that crow and took pictures of it. Lynn told me about how the other crows made him an outcast and picked on him because he was different. This past weekend she was in the park and she noticed the albino crow sneaking up behind a goose and you guessed it … he goosed the goose. I guess the poor bird had to let out his frustrations somehow.

Then she told me how her and David were sitting out on the back deck and just enjoying the evening when they saw a bald eagle chasing three geese and he was gaining on the last one. Lynn doesn’t know what happened because they flew out of sight but then her and I came up with a whole bunch of different scenarios which were totally funny. I just couldn’t imagine a bald eagle trying to kill a goose. I always thought they went after smaller prey. Nature is strange sometimes and sometimes very funny and sometimes just out right amazing.

Well, I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend. I knew that Karen had cooked a ham and scalloped potatoes on Saturday so I asked her if I could have a takeout plate on Sunday which she obliged. It was so good. I didn’t want to cook a big ham and I live alone so it was nice to just get a plate. Thank God for great neighbours.

Gatineau down to Quyon went into the COVID-19 red zone on Saturday and now a lot more businesses will be shut down. It is really getting scary. The second wave is going to be worse than the first. Thank God it’s coming on winter and people will not be so inclined to congregate as much and maybe it will help slow this thing down.

When are we getting our vaccinations for the regular flu has anyone heard? Usually it’s posted in the newspapers as to where all these vaccination centres will be and so far I haven’t seen anything. Or do we have to go to our regular doctors to get vaccinated?

I was just called on Thursday and told that my eye appointment had to be changed due to the fact that my ophthalmologist has COVID-19 now. That is really making me scared to go to the next visit. I mean, he has no choice except to get into my face and mine into his so it’s scary on both sides. I wish him well and hope he isn’t too sick and doesn’t get any side effects.
