I would like to express my condolences to the family and friends of Jacqueline “Jackie” Dubeau who passed away peacefully at home in Fort Coulonge on July 9 at the age of 62 years. She leaves behind . . .

her companion Ronald Henri and children Shelly, Joey, Billy Ron, and Robin. She was a sister to Theresa, Thomas, Alfred, Barbara, Carl, Donald and Angela.

My deepest sympathy goes out to Joann Zimmerling on the loss of her son Terry Gray on July 2. Terry leaves behind his brother Timmy and companion Annette and his two children Devon and Tyler.

2020 is the year none of us will ever forget. The main thing is COVID-19 but it’s also the deadly heat and drought it’s causing in the Pontiac. It’s an extremely bad year for the farmers and their production is down by 75 per cent in some places. Also the loss of wages and the shut down of many businesses in the last couple of months which means some may never be able to open or recover from the loss of revenue.

So many people I have known have died this year and the numbers keep increasing. They haven’t died from COVID-19 but are gone just the same. Another strange thing is the amount of dogs that have perished this year for one reason or the other. I personally know at least 10 people who have lost two dogs this year. Many of you know that these animals are held dearly in our hearts. For all of you I’m so sorry for your losses.

It has been so hot this past week it was 35 degrees Celsius and every day was hitting as high as 40 degrees Celsius and with the humidity sometimes as high as 47. I still did a lot of work inside my house but I had air conditioning and without it I could not have survived I’m sure. There were a few moments where I wanted to just go down to the river and jump in to get cooled off. I really feel bad for anyone who didn’t have air conditioning or who had lost power and were suffering in that heat.

The lawns are all drying up and the gardens aren’t doing that well unless you have access to water. I only planted on July 1 and the yellow and green beans came up and I have arugula and lettuce but the beets, carrots and spinach did not make it through that heat spell. I’ll just take what I can get.

Animal Aide Pontiac has a new 50-50 draw on Facebook and the tickets are $10 a piece. Due to the fact that we cannot have any other kind of functions at the moment this is the only way to raise money to help spay and neuter cats and dogs. I was the fortunate one who won $1,000 the last draw. It couldn’t have come at a better time because I had to fly out to BC to be with my sister after her accident and return home so that little venture cost over $1,200. My point is that anyone can win this money and also help out the animal aid at the same time so please give your support.

Is there anyone out there who needs ceramic or glass tiles because I have a lot to be given away? Maybe your school could use them for projects. There are many different shapes, styles and colours. I would like them all gone within the next few weeks. Just call me at 819-921-5296.
