Trucks of all sorts lined up at the Sand Bay ball park on Saturday morning for a touch-a-truck fundraiser hosted by the Sand Bay Association.

The fundraising event gave families a chance to enjoy a sunny barbecue at the ball park, and check out a variety of trucks provided by members of the community.

The afternoon featured a fire truck from the Shawville -Clarendon Fire Department, a crane truck from McGyver Barber, an excavator and backhoe from Emerson Excavation, and a vintage . . .

truck provided by Jim Wallace.

“We’re doing a barbecue fundraiser for the Sand Bay Association to raise money for activities for the kids during the summer,” said Stacey Thomson, organizer for the event.

Thomson said the event came together with help from a handful of community groups, including the Shawville Lions Club which donated a barbecue, tables and a canopy, the Shawville Giant Tiger which donated chips, and Terry Campbell who helped the association buy burgers and hotdogs from K&L Dairy.

Clancy Keon, from Quyon, brought her kids out to enjoy the sunny afternoon because they love trucks, especially the fire truck, she said.

The event also featured a raffle for a homemade wooden cooler with foam insulation, donated by John Cannan, and a 50/50 draw.

Thomson expects to raise $500 through the touch-a-truck event and plans on using the funds to plan future events during the summer, such as the annual “Christmas in July” and “Halloween in August” events, which give families at the cottage for the summer a chance to celebrate the staple holidays with the Sand Bay community.
