PONTIAC Oct.10, 2018
The Equity has an announcement, not just for our loyal readers, but for anyone who’s interested in news in the Pontiac.
We’ve re-vamped our website!
All of your favourite aspects will remain, with a few tweaks.
One of the biggest adjustments: each week, we will be putting one of our top news stories outside of our paywall, which means anyone can read it free of charge.
It’s a difficult decision, especially in light of the tough landscape faced by local media. In fact, according to data gathered by the Local News Research Project, over 250 Canadian news outlets have closed since 2008.
This can have a massive impact on smaller markets like the Pontiac. Thankfully, we’re well-served in this region by local news.
Expanding the reach of news is a constant priority of any news organization. With that in mind, we want to make it easier for people to keep up to date on what’s going on in their community.
Not only that, but people who aren’t from here can also read about important stories that are going on locally.
Many people, when confronted with a paywall, immediately hit the “back” button on their computer. With so much free news available, why would people pay for it?
We at THE EQUITY believe in the quality of the news we deliver each week. As a result, we want to make sure that it’s exposed to as many people as possible.
One of the ways to do this is to make it more accessible to people by eliminating the paywall.
So get on your social media feeds and do us a favour: share those stories far and wide.
Show your pride in your local community by letting folks from outside the region know what’s going on by sharing on your social media feed.
We’re constantly thankful of the support we receive from the community. And if one thing is for sure, it’s that Pontiacers know how to support their local businesses.
So if you get a chance, click the “share” button. We appreciate it.
