The Quyon Legion hosted its annual St. Patrick’s Day kitchen party on Saturday afternoon, featuring live local talent, a few rounds of jello shots and plenty of themed swag.“You know it’s a good party when the musicians end up playing for over six hours,” said Natasha Curley, a local musician who sang and played her guitar at the event well into the evening.Curley was joined on the figurative stage by the likes of Cal Cummings, Danny Strong and Rolly Bernier, who together played a variety of old country songs and a couple of classic Irish tunes.
“I always look forward to playing with those guys, so when Vikki [the event organizer] asked, of course I said I’d be there,” Curley said.Special appearances were also made by Vikki Stanley, and Jacques Prud’Homme, who both sang and played guitar.“All the musicians just come and volunteer their time and play and sing. There’s no stage or anything. That’s why we call it the kitchen party,” said Sharon Young, event organizer and executive member of the Quyon Legion.“Usually we get a good crowd,” she added.Curley’s aunt Maureen, a local resident and Legion member, has taken part in the Legion’s party on many occasions.“I knew she [Natasha] was playing, but I always come for the kitchen party. It’s great to get together and have a drink with the gang,” she said.Jean-Paul Côté, also a Quyon resident, said he attended the event with a friend visiting from out of town. “I come to the legion a lot, but it’s been a while since I’ve been to a St. Paddy’s Day,” he said. “I came to have a couple drinks, and have fun!”
