Santa hopped off his sleigh in Ladysmith over the weekend to hear what the community’s good boys and girls were hoping to get for Christmas.
In a special three-hour visit organized by the Ladysmith Recreation Committee, 36 kids waited patiently in line in the basement of the Thorne Community Recreation Association to take their turn putting in their requests.
Grace Pasch, one of these kids, said that she trusted his judgement when it comes to holiday gift giving.
“It was really fun,” Pasch said. “I asked Santa for a surprise.”
After hopping off Santa’s chair, the kids each received a candy cane and Christmas card with a $10 gift card to Giant Tiger.
Monique Atkinson, one of the founding members of the recreation committee, said the committee organized the visit to bring the holiday spirit closer to home, and that when Santa arrived, the kids couldn’t help but flock to him.
The free event also had colouring activities and a dessert potluck full of donated sweets.
The event was made possible by a $500 contribution from the Municipality of Thorne and $100 from Oktoberfest Ladysmith which was used to purchase decorations and help bring Santa to Ladysmith.
