Communities across the Pontiac are organizing Remembrance Day ceremonies this Sunday, Nov. 10 and Monday, Nov. 11, to remember and honour the soldiers who have served to protect this nation, many of whom sacrificed their lives to protect the freedom of Canadians.

In the Pontiac, ceremonies in Quyon, Shawville, Ladysmith, Portage du Fort, Campbell’s Bay, and Chapeau will be hosted by Pontiac’s two branches of the Royal Canadian Legion.

“Ultimately I think it comes down to remembering and paying respect to those who gave their life and sacrificed for our way of living,” said Tyler Brady, Sergeant at Arms with the Quyon Legion, Branch 231, which will be hosting the ceremony in Quyon.

“They gave so much so I think it’s our duty as Canadians to give back. Even if it’s just a few hours on Remembrance Day.”

Mona Woodstock, secretary with the Pontiac Legion, Branch 162, in Campbell’s Bay, emphasized how critical supporting Remembrance Day through the poppy campaign is to Legions, like hers, across the country.

“The poppy campaign is where we get our money from to donate to other organizations, like the St-Joseph’s home, to cemeteries that need upkeep, and to veterans that need our help,” she said. “So that’s why it’s so important to keep the Legions and the poppy campaign going.”
