I hope all of the moms and mother figures had a fantastic Mother’s Day weekend. My family celebrated with a spaghetti dinner at my place on Saturday, and we had a great time filled with laughter and gifting the moms in our family. I was also lucky to receive a few special treats from my godchildren. It was a wonderful weekend of celebrating.
Congratulations to Josh and Destiny Greenshields on the arrival of their first child, a baby boy born on May 1. They have named him Coleson Richard, and he is just adorable. His excited first-time grandparents are Susan and Richard Greenshields of Quyon. Wishing Josh and Destiny all the best with their sweet little boy.
Last Friday, the Pontiac Arena Fund Committee hosted their second Mens Night at the Shawville arena to help raise funds for repairs and upgrades that are much needed at the arena. I hear it was another full house, with a great crowd out to support this very worthy cause. The live auction was massively successful, and I hear Brodee Campbell took home a nice chunk of change after winning the 50/50. Way to go Brodee! Hats off to the organizers for putting on such an amazing event. The arena is a vital part of our greater community, and raising the money to keep it thriving is a huge endeavour. Their hard work towards this goal is greatly appreciated.
The Quyon Legion hosted a Poker Tournament on Saturday, with a nice turnout of players who came to try their luck. The big winner of the day was Ricky Belland. He also played a big role in organizing this fundraiser for the Legion, so kudos to Ricky and his helpers on such a successful day.
Birthday wishes are going out to my aunt, Marion Draper, celebrating on May 13th. Happy birthday to Rori Richardson and Mackayla Bruce, both celebrating on the 14th, and to Gracynn Prest on the 18th. Blessings to all marking special occasions this week.
As long as the flood waters continue to recede at the Quyon Community Centre, this coming Sunday, May 17, will be the annual breakfast hosted by the Quyon Lions Club. Join the Quyon Lions Club’s Facebook page for updates to stay informed, but if all goes well, it will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.. They always serve up a delicious brunch, and we are looking forward to it.
It is hard to believe this coming weekend is already the Victoria Day long weekend. The weather sure hasn’t felt warm enough yet for it to be the May long weekend. Let’s hope for some sunshine and warmth, as I know many are eager to get outside for gardening, golfing, barbecuing, and much more. Cheers to a great long weekend.
